Banyan and Qiao have just finished PE and are cooling off in front of an air conditioner in the foyer.
Banyan: How is it the last day of September and STILL this hot?
Qiao: (wipes some sweat off her forehead) Get used to it, Zhuhai is like this for most of the year.
Banyan: Ah, well, I hope I adjust soon enough. (takes a sip from his water bottle) Hey, can you believe we’ve already been at school for a month?
Qiao: Wow. The time flew by so quickly. (grins) It feels like you’ve been here for years rather than weeks, though.
Banyan: (smiles back) I agree. The first day of school feels like it was just yesterday.
Qiao: So does the first house challenge when we became buddies.
Banyan: Yeah! (smirks) Green house completely annihilated all of y’all.
Qiao: Sure, sure. But our girls’ football team was the pinnacle of team spirit!
Banyan: True. I have to admit, putting up a good fight against girls twice your size is impressive!
Qiao: Speaking of impressive, I still can’t forget some of the performances at this year’s Sundowner.
Banyan: Oh, definitely! There was what, 50+ students who signed up to perform? That’s crazy! There are definitely some future stars in our school.
Qiao: We have some future mathematicians too! I spotted some geniuses during the Australian Mathematics Competition not too long ago.
Banyan: I also saw them at the World Scholar’s Cup & Business Simulation workshops!
Qiao: Right! I’m super excited for the upcoming competitions. And not just because it’s a neat thing to have on your report card.
Banyan: (laughs) Yeah, we now know all about that after attending the university workshops and speaking to the college representatives. (looks over to the foyer stage) I have to thank the Parent’s Information Night. That meeting really helped me get a grasp of what ZIS is like, what the school year will be like, and what I need to do this year.
Qiao: Me too, and I’m not even a new student! Man, school just started, but so many things have happen-
(Qiao pauses mid-sentence as Mr. Sego and Mr. Mike enter the foyer and approach the two students)
Mr. Sego: Why are you two still down here? Class ended 10 minutes ago!
Mr. Mike: Chilling in front of the AC? Don’t you know that that’s the worst thing you can do right after PE?
Mr. Sego: GO!
(Banyan and Qiao hurry up the stairs)
